Imphal: The opposition Congress party in Manipur claimed that the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government are giving profits to capitalists, especially the Gautam Adani Group, which is “making the poor poorer in the state”.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) senior spokesperson N Bhupendra on Tuesday highlighted the “plight” of National Food Security Act (NFSA) cardholders who are not getting their ration properly.
He added that due to the mismanagement of the state government, the people of the state are also facing water crisis and cooking gas prices are skyrocketing, putting additional pressure on the already struggling families.
Bhupendra also raised questions about non-release of NFSA quota to ration card holders for the month of December 2022.
He pointed to the Congress party’s “success” in bringing about the Thoubal Multi-Purpose Project and the Chingnunghood Water Supply Projects which have provided drinking water to many people in Imphal East district.
In contrast, Bhupendra noted that since the BJP government led by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has been in power since March 2017, people in Imphal region are still not getting proper drinking water.
He urged the Manipur government to emulate the Rajasthan government’s approach of providing cooking gas to consumers at low cost, highlighting that a full cooking cylinder in Congress-ruled Rajasthan. 500 per cylinder, whereas in Manipur, a full cylinder. Cooking gas cylinder is available for Rs.1500.
