
Over Manipur unrest, mass protests under NESO slab northeast states
Guwahati: The North East Students Organization (NESO) on Thursday (November 09) staged massive protests against the six-month-long violence in the northeastern states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. Manipur.
Students’ organizations from each of the northeastern states, which are members of NESO, staged sit-ins in their respective state capitals demanding permanent peace in Manipur.
The protests, besides demanding peace in Manipur, also criticized the BJP-led central government for its alleged ‘in-action’ to normalize the situation in the riot-torn northeastern state.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) – a member of NESO – organized a one-day demonstration for permanent peace in Manipur at the NEFA Club building in Itanagar.
AAPSU Vice President Bengia Pilia and NESO IPR Secretary Pritam Sonam briefed the media expressing concern over the ongoing violence in Manipur.
Both AAPSU and NESO criticized the central government for its failure to control the situation in Manipur and called for a peaceful solution to resolve the ongoing crisis.
In Tripura, Twipra Students Federation (TSF) staged a dharna demanding permanent peace in Manipur.
In Manipur too, the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) staged a dharna at Keishampat Leimajam Lekai in Imphal.
In Nagaland, the Naga Students Federation (NSF) under the auspices of NESO staged a demonstration near the Raj Bhavan in Kohima demanding permanent peace in Manipur.
A similar demonstration was also staged in Meghalaya’s Shillong by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU).
In Assam, NESO along with All Assam Students Union (AASU) staged a protest at Swahid Nyas Bhawan in Guwahati, demanding immediate restoration of peace in Manipur.
In Mizoram, Mizo Zarlai Paul (MZP) staged a demonstration at Vanappa Hall in Aizawl.
