Guwahati: After the arrest of five accused, who are linked to a Pakistan-based terror module, Nagaon Superintendent of Police Leena Doley on Wednesday said the arrests were made based on input from the Central Investigation Agency.
Without naming the central investigating agency, Doley told mediapersons in Guwahati that Nagaon police had received information about 10 such suspects.
“We received input from a central investigation agency and based on that and with their help, we identified 10 persons, nine of whom belong to Nagaon district and one to Morigaon district. After the raids, they Five of them have been arrested while the other five are absconding. However, we will continue our pursuit to arrest them soon,” said Doley.
“A large number of items including mobile phone handsets, laptops, high-end central processing units, and hundreds of SIM cards have been seized from their possession. These SIM cards are being analyzed and full information from the accused has been seized. After inquiries we will further clarify what this whole network is and who was funding them.
“During analysis, it was found that they were purchasing around 300-400 SIM cards with an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number and we suspect that these SIM cards were being used between Pakistan and India. And the activity of these mobile numbers was found while inquiring against India,” said Dooley.
“We are yet to identify the exact organization that was working through these accused but once the rest of the accused are nabbed and the technical analysis is completed, we will have more information,” he said. ”
