Over killing of Former minister's son Nonganba, protest in Manipur

Imphal: Women participants of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) staged a dharna protest against the killing of Akoijam Nonganba, demanding justice and the authorities concerned to determine the facts and circumstances that led to the death.

A large number of women took part in the sit-in in front of the Tiddim Road Athletic Union Ground, Imphal on Tuesday.
JAC convener Ashalata told reporters that Ak Nonganba, son of Ak Laingam, former Minister of Roads and Transport of Manipur, Kwakeithel Konjeng Awang Leikai, a resident of Imphal, was arrested at Changoubung under Kangpokpi Police Station on Sunday. They were found dead.
He left home in a red car on February 11 with his girlfriend Thokchom Sonia from the same area. Although Nonganba did not return home, Sonia did.

The body of AK Noganba was recovered with injury marks on his body indicating that it was an unnatural death. Nonganba’s body is currently at the RIMS mortuary and the JAC said it will not claim the body until justice is served.
Meanwhile, police said two suspects, a woman Thokchom Sonia and Mayangkhang Moses of Kongpokpi district, have been picked up in connection with the crime and further questioning is underway.
