Over illegal border crossing two Bangladeshi nationals arrested
Guwahati: Two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by the police in South Salmara-Mankachar district of western Assam on Saturday, raising concerns about illegal immigration along the India-Bangladesh border.
The two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Jhanjhani village under Mankachar police station, a police official said.
The Village Defense Party (VDP) intercepted the two men who were suspected of illegally entering Indian territory. He said the VDP immediately informed the local police, which led to their arrest.
Verification of the individuals’ identities revealed them to be Manjurul Hassan (55) and Osamabin Hasen Sajib (32), both residents of Belua village in Bangladesh’s Sherpur District.
Investigations confirmed that neither possessed valid travel documents (passports or visas), suggesting unauthorized entry into India, the official added.
Following their apprehension, Hassan and Sajib were taken to the Mankachar police station for further questioning.
The interrogation aims to uncover their motives for illegal entry and identify any potential accomplices or networks facilitating such border crossings.
