
Over hiked parking fee at LGBI airport, cab drivers voice concern
Guwahati: Tourist cab operators in Assam have expressed concern over high parking fees at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) and competition from private self-drive rental car companies.
They have approached the state transport minister for a resolution under the Seven State Tourist Cab Operators Union.
In a memorandum to Transport Minister Parimal Suklabadya, the union said the LGBI airport authorities earlier charged Rs 100 from each ride when cabs picked up passengers or tourists and dropped them off the airport premises as parking fee. used to give
Now they have alleged that the authorities have been charging taxis Rs 300 to Rs 800 for the past few days if they exceed the 10-minute limit.
The union said its high fees are a major problem for taxi drivers, as it is not possible to drop off passengers within 10 minutes and collect money for rides.
Private companies now offering self-drive rental cars are also a major concern for cab operators, the union added.
Along with companies providing self-drive vehicles to tourists, taxi owners and drivers are also not able to earn enough during the holiday season.
While meeting the minister, the union urged him to stop the high parking fees for LGBI airport parking.
They urged him to stop private companies from providing cars on lease to commuters and tourists.
