Agartala: Tripura royal family and former Tipra Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday warned of an unprecedented “peaceful protest” in Tripura if their demands were not met immediately.
Addressing a press conference, Pradyot said that the party’s core ideological demand for the creation of Greater Tipraland was unyielding.
When talks were held with the Government of India, Pradyot asserted that Tipra would not back down from its stand.
Another resolution passed during the plenary session was related to budget allocation for Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in the current financial year.
With the current allocation at 2%, TIPRA has expressed its intention to pressurize the state government for what it perceives as deprivation. Corruption was also highlighted as a key issue that the party is actively tackling.
Pradyot announced plans to restructure the party, starting from the grassroots. He promised to set up Tipra Motha Party Office in every district, personally bearing the related expenses.
On a possible alliance, Pradyot said that if the BJP does not want to form an alliance with Tipra Motha, other parties are available, and all options are open.
Pradyot concluded by warning that if their demands were not met, a massive peaceful protest, unlike anything seen before, would be launched in Tripura.
He said that the preparations were already underway but the announcement would be made later to ensure obtaining the necessary permissions.
