Over exploitation of Naga youths GPRN/NNC raises alarm
Kohima: The GPRN/NNC (Apex Body), led by SS Pungokhu Naga and General Secretary Francis Kikon, has expressed serious concern regarding the exploitation of Naga youths working in various private establishments across the state.
Calling for significant reforms in employment practices, particularly regarding wages and working conditions, a MIP release from the GPRN/NNC (AB) stated that with over 70,000 educated but unemployed youths in Nagaland, the situation has reached a critical point, leading to fears of escalating social issues among a frustrated younger population.
Reports of sexual exploitation of female employees in the private sector and incidents of educated youths engaging in illegal activities have further intensified these concerns, it stated.
The GPRN/NNC (AB) criticized the state government’s lack of vision and inability to address these pressing problems, attributing it to corruption, nepotism, favoritism, and tribalism. It noted that over 80% of business establishments and economic activities are controlled by non-Nagas, raising concerns about increasing exploitation and declining job opportunities for local youths.
It, therefore, called for a reassessment of business practices, urging the elite and privileged members of society to create opportunities specifically for educated unemployed youths.
The GPRN/NNC (AB) while expressing outmost respect, support and gratitude to the various NPGs and the struggle for Nagaland sovereign rights pointed out that along the path of self determination, the various NPGs should work for the welfare and economy of the educated unemployed youths in the state.
Naga Sovereign birthright would be meaningless when its people live in poverty with shattered economy, it stated while calling on the “elites and the privileged in the society to reserve business establishment for the educated unemployed youths.”
