Over drug abuse stren warning issued by DGP Nagaland to cops

Dimapur: Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma has issued a final warning to the state policemen who are indulging in alcohol and substance abuse and possessing unauthorized arms and ammunition.

In a video message on Friday, DGP Sharma said that strict disciplinary action, including dismissal from service, would be initiated against those involved in these activities. He said that this should be taken as a final warning.
He said that he has been warning the police against alcohol and substance abuse for the past seven months.

Sharma asked them to reform themselves or face dire consequences if caught. He also asked his family to understand this.
Stating that the state police has prepared a list of suspects in the first phase, he said unit commanders have been asked to issue notices to them to go to rehabilitation centers within a week at their own expense.

He said that if they go for treatment, they will be treated as sick and if they do not, they will be treated as criminals.
Sharma asked them to take advantage of this last opportunity keeping in mind the welfare of themselves and their families.

The state police chief asked police personnel who are still in possession of any unauthorized ammunition to hand them over to their unit commanders by September 20.
He assured them that they would be pardoned for one last time irrespective of the crime or office, otherwise there would be no mercy if anyone was caught with unauthorized ammunition or arms.
Citing three incidents of loss of ammunition by the police department in the past three months, Sharma warned that if ammunition or weapons are found lost or stolen during the annual classified firing, anyone involved in the act will be spared. will not go and action will be no mercy taken against him.
He further said that not only the persons involved in the classification firing but also the supervisors, ABSIs, ABIs or Deputy Commandants, Commanders or Unit Commanders will bear the responsibility.
The DGP specifically asked the unit commanders to ensure physical stock of arms and ammunition while taking charge of their units for their own security. He further said that if any wrongdoing is found, the responsibility will be on the government.
