The public protest rally was held on Tuesday (July 25) in Haflong town of Dima Hasao district of Assam.
Women belonging to various ethnic tribes took out a protest rally against the “heinous crimes against women in Manipur” in Haflong town of Dima Hasao district in Assam.
All Dima Hasao Joint Women’s Organization (ADHJWO) said, “We strongly condemn the gang-rape and parade of naked tribal women in Manipur.”
It added: “We demand justice for the victims.”
It should be noted that a video from Manipur on May 4 had surfaced on social media on July 19, which created a stir across the country.
In the video, two Kuki women were paraded naked, molested and one of them gang-raped by a mob of lecherous men in a paddy field in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
Ever since the video went viral on social media, organizations across India have been demanding justice for the victimized Kuki women.
Reacting to the incident, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that there have been hundreds of similar crimes against women in the last three months.
Manipur has been on the boil since May 3, when ethnic clashes broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities, followed by widespread violence in the northeastern state on May 3.
