Over comments on 'Kamtapur' AAKRASU wants plea from Zubeen

Assam: The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AAKRASU) has demanded an apology from singer Zubeen Garg for his alleged comments on Koch Rajbongshi, failing which he will not be allowed to perform at Bongaigaon on April 16.
Zubeen is scheduled to perform at a cultural program organized by the Central Rangali Bihu Celebration Committee at Bongaigaon Gandhi Maidan.
“We will not allow him (Zubeen Garg) to perform across the state, not Bongaigaon, until he takes his stand on the separate state of ‘Kamtapur’,” an AAKRASU member told the media. No apologies for the alleged comment.
“We have come to know that he will be performing at Bongaigaon Gandhi Maidan, we want to request the organizers to apologize to Zabeen Garg or else we will not allow him to perform,” he added.
AAKRASU had banned the singer on March 3 for allegedly commenting on the separate state of ‘Kamtapur’.

“Zubeen Garg is a singer, so he needs to behave accordingly. He shouldn’t comment on a subject he doesn’t really know about. We heard that he was invited by several committees to perform in our district, but we are strongly against it. And we banned him from playing in our district”, the General Secretary of AAKRASU said while speaking to the media on the matter.
On January 14 this year, AAKRASU staged a demonstration at Golokganj in Dhubri demanding tribal status for the Kamtapur state and the Koch Rajbongshis.
Earlier, Garg had opposed the idea of creating a separate state of Kamatapur with his comments.
Zubeen was performing at Namoni Assam Mohatsav in Golpara and while interacting with the crowd in between the performance he said, “…again the policy of divide, divide and rule whether it is Congress or BJP. I don’t care. Again, they are ready to divide Assam. You are born in Assam and now again you have to make a separate voter card for Kamtapur state…”
