Over Assistant Registrar's hiring, MZP to boycott NIT convocation

Aizawl: Mizoram Zirlai Pawl (MZP) has called for a boycott of the convocation of NIT Mizoram on 17 January 2024, raising concerns about alleged irregularities in the NIT’s assistant registrar recruitment process.
The protest gathered pace at 12 pm, with students gathering at the convocation venue with placards and banners.
At around 4:30 p.m., MZP representatives held a meeting with NIT Board of Governors Chairman Shir Harshavardhan Neotia and other top officials of NIT at the Berawtlang Tourist Resort.
Chairman Neotia allayed MZP’s concerns by assuring a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment.
Acknowledging Chairman Neotia’s commitment to a transparent inquiry, MZP officials decided to end their boycott.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, MZP officials said their decision was influenced by the assurance of investigation and subsequent action by the education ministry.
“We will carefully review the steps taken by Chairman Neotia and hold NIT accountable for any irregularities,” MZP spokesperson announced.
In a show of solidarity, Chief Minister Lalduhoma met the protesting MZP members and expressed his support for their cause. Lalduhoma assured the protestors that he would hold talks with NIT Board of Governors Chairman Neotia to address their concerns.
The Chief Minister also reiterated his commitment to work for the cancellation of the controversial appointment.
