Laitumkhrah: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) issued a stern warning to leaders of various non-tribal communities on July 7 following a clash that led to a fire incident at the Laitumkhrah police station.
In a statement, KSU General Secretary Donald V. Thabah said the association had received information that the Laitumkhrah incident was due to an attack on youths in the neighborhood by non-tribals.
“Surprisingly, CRPF personnel were protecting non-tribals while local youth were being beaten with sticks,” he claimed.
According to Thabah, the union is still gathering additional information regarding the circumstances that led to the incident.
He claimed that such incidents “reminded the KSU of the yesteryears of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s when non-tribals were trying to ensure that the Khasis fled Shillong. ”
The KSU leader also asked the heads of various non-native networks to stop their relatives from enjoying such events, the bomb blasts which would force the association to take drastic measures like that had been abolished by its former chiefs, who had prevented the advancement of outsiders.
“In the event that the association is forced to take such measures, non-indigenous networks and the public authority should accept full ownership for the results,” he expressed.
