Arunachal's Itanagar strike show Govt is unaware of people's anger
Itanagar: A morning-to-evening capital bandh called by the ‘people’ against the scheduled swearing-in of APPSC’s new chief and members saw several people on the streets of the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) on Friday.
The roads of the ICR, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa, looked deserted throughout the day as all business establishments and most government offices remained closed.
Thousands of people gathered here at the intersection leading to Raj Bhawan and have been raising slogans against the government since 5 am.
Apart from demanding the cancellation of the swearing-in ceremony, the people (aspirants) are also demanding the fulfillment of the 13-point charter demands of the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC).
PAJSC is an organization of aggrieved candidates leading the movement in the state against the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak case.
According to the PAJSC, “The Arunachal government has a hidden agenda in appointing Lt Gen (retd) Shantanu Dayal as APPSC chairman”. He has questioned the credibility of APPSC’s screening committee for appointing one Rosy Taba as a member of the commission.
Meanwhile, government sources said the proposed swearing-in ceremony of the new APPSC chairman and members has been postponed.
The cabinet took this decision through a virtual meeting. This is what the protestors were demanding in writing at the time of filing the report.
This is a developing story.
