Imphal: Hundreds of people, mostly women, blocked NH 02 Imphal-Dimapur on Monday at Sekmai in Manipur’s Imphal West district over the alleged abduction of a 47-year-old man.
They demanded the immediate release of the person who was abducted by unknown persons from Maharabi area on Imphal to Dimapur road on Sunday.
Binarani Devi, a member of the blockade, said the protest would continue until the abducted person was handed over to his relatives.
Gurumayum Ingocha (Bobo) Sharma of Khamral Awang Leikai in Imphal West was abducted while on his way to Sekmai on a motorcycle.
According to the police, Bobo was abducted by unknown persons who came in an SUV without a registration number, according to footage from a nearby CCTV camera.
So far, neither the reason for the abduction nor any group has claimed responsibility.
After the news of his abduction spread, the women of the area demanded Bobo’s immediate and safe release and stormed the Sekmai police station.
On the other hand, the police say that efforts are on to quickly recover the missing person.
