
Over 40,000 people still affected from deadly flood in Assam
Assam: An official bulletin on July 13 said that the flood situation in Assam remains critical and the most affected areas are Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Majuli, Nalbari, Tamulpur, Tinsukia.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report, no human life has been lost in the last 24 hours. As a result, the total number of human lives lost so far has reached seven.
The Beki (Road Bridge), Disang (Ninglamuraghat), Brahmaputra (Dhubri; Neamatighat) are currently flowing above the danger level, ASDMA said.
ASDMA said that a total of 179 villages in 19 revenue circles are under water and 2211.99 hectares of cropland has been damaged in Assam.
Meanwhile, Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC), which operates the Kurichhu project in eastern Bhutan, announced on July 13 that it will conduct reservoir scouring of the Kurichhu hydropower plant on July 14.
In a notification, it said that Dirk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) will release the water stored in the reservoir in a controlled manner from 00:00 am on July 14, 2023 and at 9:00 am on the same day Expected to be completed.
The Assam Chief Minister took notice and tweeted, “Royal Government of Bhutan has informed us that more water will be released from Kurichhu Dam tonight. We have asked our district administration to be vigilant and provide all possible assistance to the people. What’s the alert for. If the water breaks the Beki and Manas rivers.”
