Imphal: Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) – the largest organization of Tangkhul Nagas in the Northeast – has opposed the opening of a relief camp in Manipur’s Ukhrul district.

Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) on Sunday (July 09) asked the Manipur government not to open any relief camps in Manipur’s Ukhrul district.
Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) also asked the Manipur government to facilitate early resettlement of displaced people to their native places.

Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) president David K ​​Shimray on Sunday said that the establishment and operation of a semi-permanent relief camp in Ukhrul district should not accommodate displaced persons from other districts.
“To ensure permanent peace in the state, the Manipur government should formulate a policy to allocate displaced persons to their original location and not disperse them elsewhere,” Shamray said.
“TNL also warns that if any displaced person from another district is allotted in Ukhrul district, TNL will oppose such action of the state government and any eventuality will be the responsibility of the state government.”

Shamray added: “The unrest in Manipur has affected the entire community of the state. Tingkhol Naga Long (TNL) is eager to restore normalcy as soon as possible.”
Earlier, the United Naga Council (UNC), an apex body of 20 Naga tribes, had said that a few Naga tribes, near areas affected by the ongoing conflict between Kukis and Meiteis in Manipur. live He was subjected to harassment and ill-treatment by miscreants belonging to two communities.
“It is very unfortunate that some Naga tribes who live in close proximity to both the warring communities and live in the foothills, have been harassed, mistreated, abused to perform certain tasks involuntarily. was mistreated and intimidated.”
The UNC said the Nagas are neutral in the ongoing violence in the northeastern state of Manipur.

It warned that the Nagas should not be dragged into the ongoing violence in Manipur.
The UNC said in a statement that vested interests are trying to drag the Nagas into the ongoing conflict in conflict-ridden Manipur between the Kukis and Meiteis.
“UNC is playing a neutral role without taking sides. One should be mindful that nothing can be hidden in this digital age and criminals involved in fueling deep conflicts are advised to Come out clean before the damage is done,” UNC said.
It may be noted that the state of Manipur has been on the boil since May 3 following clashes between two communities and subsequent large-scale violence.

About 150 people have lost their lives and thousands have been displaced after the clashes and subsequent violence in the state.
