Imphal: In the wake of the ongoing crisis in Manipur, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) has issued a stern ultimatum demanding the state government to trace all the missing persons within a week.
The announcement came during a public meeting held at Akham in Imphal West district, the native village of kidnapped students Ningthoujam Anthony and Maibam Avinash.
Organized against the disappearance of Anthony and Avinash, the JAC brought together representatives of various civil society organizations, political leaders and student organizations.
Emotions ran high as attendees shared their concerns, opinions and suggestions regarding the current situation.
At the end of the meeting, several resolutions were passed stressing the urgency of the situation.
If the state government fails to locate the missing persons within the stipulated week, the JAC has vowed to launch various agitations to press their demands.
Furthermore, they vowed to seek the intervention of national and international bodies to prosecute missing persons.
The crisis has intensified in Manipur, with people clamoring not only for justice for the brutal killing of two students by armed miscreants, but also for the safe release of Avinash Maibam and Ningthoujam Anthony, who have been missing since November 5.
Despite assurances from relatives and local representatives who met with the Governor, Chief Minister and MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, the missing students have not been located.
The arrest of two persons allegedly connected with the kidnapping has spread public dismay.
