Agartala: A Class V student sustained serious injuries as he kept coming into contact with explosives kept inside an abandoned toilet in his school.
The incident caused panic in Kalsimura Gram Panchayat of Sepahijala district, which falls under Kalamcoura police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Taiful Islam (11). He went to an abandoned toilet where some anti-social elements had hidden explosives in a bag, police said.
The victim probably failed to realize what was inside and out of curiosity touched a crude bomb placed there which detonated. Prasantha Kumar Dey, OC Kalamchoura Police Station, told that the victim sustained severe head injuries. Hearing loud noise, students and teachers of Nagar High School rushed to the spot and took him to Boxanagar Community Health Centre.
Doctors on duty after initial treatment referred him to GBP Hospital, Agartala for advanced treatment. Police sources said that a total of five bombs were kept in a bag. As the news spread, the area was cordoned off and the bomb squad pressed into action. Deputy head of the local panchayat, Gias Uddin blamed the opposition political parties for the incident.He said, “CPIM cadres have prepared explosives before the elections to be used during the post-poll violence. But, the poll results were a complete surprise to them. As the BJP retained power, the CPIM workers left no stone unturned to hide their weapons in isolated areas. Today, if there were more explosives, the boy could have died.
Sources said that the family of the victim will file an FIR against Antar Miah, Russel Miah, Jubayer Hussain, Farhad Rana and Mahinuddin etc.
