Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed Bharatiya Janata Party workers after the party won a landslide victory in the Nagaland and Tripura assembly elections.
He praised the people of the North-Eastern states for showing their faith in democracy, saying that earlier people had only heard about election violence and bombs in the North-East.
At the start of his address, PM Modi urged BJP workers to turn on the flashlight on their phones to “respect the brothers and sisters of the Northeast”.
Congratulating the BJP workers of the three northeastern states, he said that the election results show that people have faith in democracy.
PM Modi attributed the BJP’s success to the work of their governments, their working style and the efforts of their workers.
He noted that in the past there was not much talk about elections in the North East, except for election violence and blockades. However, this time, he said, “we are looking at the Northeast which is now a reflection of new thinking.”
