On twitter ahead of Eid al Azha 'Say no to Halal' is trending Why

Just a few days before Eid-ul-Azha, Twitter users have noticed a new trend in which “Say No To Halal” is trending with 20.7 thousand tweets.

On June 20, Indian internet users stepped up their anti-halal campaign.

They began highlighting their concerns about certification by including the hashtag #SayNoToHalal in their tweets.
Halal is a phrase used to indicate that a product is permitted in Islam. If a food item is labeled as ‘Halal’ then it is permissible in Islam. Many Islamic countries also import ‘Halal certified’ beef.

However, some in India oppose halal certification, calling it a “parallel system within the country”.
Earlier, a petition seeking a direction to ban ‘halal’ slaughter of animals was also filed by Akhand Bharat Morcha.
However, the Supreme Court has refused to hear such a request. “The court cannot determine who can be vegetarian or non-vegetarian,” the panel said. Those who want to eat Halal meat can do so. Those who choose to eat jerk beef can do so.”
Now, Twitterati are raising concerns about the term “Halal”. Majority of them want to annul this process.

One of them wrote, “After the Halal-free campaign in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, now the whole country will be free of Halal products.”
While another wrote, “Nowadays McDonald’s burgers, domino’s pizza, and almost all in-flight meals are halal. Is it constitutional to force halal food on non-Muslims? Say no to halal.”
