Agartala: Tipra Motha has written a letter to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha asking him to publish a white paper on the brutal power supply in the state.
Tapas Dey, former MLA and convenor of Tipra Citizens Federation said that on April 6, 2023, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has informed the assembly that 24X7 power supply will be smooth in the entire state.
On that day itself, there was no electricity in Agartala city for more than six hours. Surprisingly, the call center was also not picking up calls from customers, many alleged.
“Practically, the sun was melting in Agartala city and other places and the power department was in silence. Despite a specific promise from the power minister, a similar incident happened after a few days”, said the former MLA.
He further said, “The power outages are continuing systematically and uninterruptedly. Power Minister’s false promise is now the talk of the town. When the Platana project was implemented courtesy the Left Front government and the Government of India, there was no load shedding at all. People sold their inverters.
“Now, once again buying inverters is going on. And it’s scary. We feel cheated. Our trust has been denied. Trust has to be earned and it should come only with time,” said the former MLA.
He said that the electricity department has become the white elephant of increasing corruption.
“There is only one floor with no structure at the ground level. The government may consider publishing a white paper on what needs to be done and what has been done,” the letter added.
