On poll duty Tripura state rifles soldier killed in road accident

Agartala: A Tripura State Rifles soldier attached to the Election Sector Officer in North Tripura district’s Churaibari was killed in a road accident late on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sandama Darlong (46), North Tripura District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty told mediapersons.
He further said that the bodies of the slain youth have been shifted to the district hospital of North Tripura for post-mortem. The motorcyclist responsible for the road accident is also in police custody.
“He is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Tripura,” added a source in the police department.
According to local sources, Darlong was attached to a posse of security personnel assigned to patrol the Churaibari area.

During his duty, a suspicious motorcycle rider was passing through the area. The cops posted at the location instructed the rider to stop the motorcycle but he defied the police signal prompting the security forces to chase him down.

In this process, the rider identified as Abbas Ali lost control of the motorcycle and ran over the TSR soldier. He suffered grave injuries leading to his death.

Police sources further claimed that the motorcycle rider was involved in the smuggling of Agarwood which is why he refused to obey the police signals. A specific case has been registered with the local police station in connection with the incident.
