Kohima: In a shocking development, former Naga People’s Front (NPF) Party candidate and current NPF Mokokchung Division President Moasangba Jamir has been arrested for allegedly killing one of his workers.
Police received information about the incident on Tuesday, October 17 at around 4:30 p.m. Moasangba Jamir, who contested from 25 Mongoya Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung District in the 2023 state general election, allegedly shot one of his workers with a 22 rifle at his Chuchuyimpang village resort.
A dispute between two workers led to the tragic incident. The deceased, identified as Longshang Konyak from Longching village, worked at Metsuben Resort owned by Jamir.
After the incident, Jamir surrendered himself to the police and is currently in custody. Mokokchung police are investigating the case and collecting witness statements.
The nature of the case, homicide or accidental death, is yet to be determined. No FIR has been registered yet and the post-mortem is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
The Chuchuyimpang Village Council in a meeting with the 7 Eastern Tribes Union Mokokching and ENPO acknowledged Jamir’s involvement in the incident, calling it an unfortunate incident.
They requested forgiveness for the accused but the decision will be taken after consulting the family of the deceased and the village council.
The Konyak Union Mokokching will hold a meeting tomorrow, pending the arrival of the deceased’s younger brother from Kohima. Further updates will be provided after the meeting and on receipt of details from the police, the KUM president said.
