Aizawl: The Mizoram State Election Commission on Monday announced that the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) elections will be held on May 9.
The last date for filing nominations for the 20-member council elections is April 24, while the last date for withdrawing nominations is April 27, the State Election Commission said in a notification.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on April 25 and counting of votes will be done on May 11.
According to the final list published by the State Election Commission earlier this month, there are 35,885 voters within Chakma Council, including 17,677 women voters. Among the 20 constituencies, Kamalanagar ‘N’ has the highest number of voters at 3,533, while Fultuli constituency has the lowest at 1,305.
There are 70 polling stations within the council. CADC was created in 1972 for the Chakma tribes living in the southwestern part of Mizoram.
The council threw a “hung” house in the last elections held in April 2018, where the Mizo National Front (MNF) won 8, the Congress (6) and the BJP (5), while the counter-constituency Fultuli was the latter. Won. Congress.
Later, all Congress and BJP members defected from the MNF, making the council fully party-ruled.
In December last year, State Governor Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati had imposed Governor’s Rule in Chakma Council due to political instability that resulted in constant changes in administration.
