Shillong: Residents of 21 villages at the Mayshynrut area of West Khasi Hills in Meghalaya protested against the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) over the reassignment of their villages to Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency.
The villagers met KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member Pynshngain N Syiem regarding the issue.
The council following the issue agreed to review the decision and potentially amend the Delimitation Bill on December 19.
However, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome and vowed to intensify their agitation.
The JAC stated that the original decision to keep the villages under Mawshynrut constituency was changed without explanation.
They added that Rambrai-Jyrngam’s remote location would inconvenience the 2,500 voters.
The committee also warned the KHADC of consequences if the decision is not reversed.
