Imphal: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has announced a visit to the violence-hit state of Manipur from June 29 to June 30.
The purpose of the visit is to address the challenges faced by the people of Manipur and help those affected by the recent incidents of violence.
Rahul Gandhi will visit the relief camps set up in the state to provide relief to the affected people. He will also engage in discussions with civil society representatives in Imphal and Churachandpur.
By personally visiting relief camps and engaging with civil society representatives, Rahul Gandhi seeks to understand the ground reality and ensure that the concerns and needs of the affected are heard and addressed.
The clashes in Manipur began on May 3 after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was held to protest against the demand for Schedule Tribe (ST) status to the Meitei community in the hill districts.
The population of the state consists of Meiteis, who are about 53% and live mainly in the Imphal Valley, and Nagas and Kuki, who are about 40% and live in the hill districts.
Rajya Sabha MP KC Venugopal shared the announcement on Twitter saying, “Rahul Gandhiji will visit Manipur on June 29-30. During his visit, he will visit relief camps and interact with civil society representatives in Imphal and Churachandpur.
Manipur has been burning for almost two months and is in dire need of healing so that the society can move from conflict to peace. This is a human tragedy, and it is our responsibility to be a force of love instead of hate.
