Guwahati: North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to visit Manipur’s Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts on June 14.

During his possible visits to Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts of Manipur, NEDA convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to meet leaders of the state’s Kuki community.
If the NEDA convenors visit Manipur on June 14, it will be their second visit to the violence-torn northeastern state in the past one week.

During his last visit to Manipur on June 10, NEDA Convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh, state cabinet ministers and representatives of organizations.
After his visit, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that peace and stability in Manipur is very important.

“For us (BJP), peace and stability in Manipur is very important,” NEDA convener and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said.

NEDA Convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also discussed the current security situation with Chief Minister Biren Singh in Manipur.
Later on June 11, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met the leaders of the Kuki organizations under suspension of operations (SoO).
NEDA Convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met at least four leaders of two Kuki rebel groups from Manipur under the SOO in Guwahati.

According to sources, the meeting was fruitful, with the Kuki leaders expressing hope for restoration of peace in Manipur after the intervention of the NEDA convener.
