Guwahati: NEDA Convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will visit the violence-hit state of Manipur on June 10.
During his one-day visit to Manipur, he will meet his Manipur counterpart and Manipur MLAs. The state has been rocked by arson, riots and inter-communal clashes since May 3.
CM Sarma’s visit comes exactly a week after Union Home Minister Amit Shah left Manipur for a four-day camp from May 29 to June 1 and announced several measures to restore peace and normalcy in the northeastern state. The latter has come, which has been damaged. Unrelenting violence, especially in districts like Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Bishnupur, Imphal East and West.
This will be Manipur CM Sarma’s first visit since the violence erupted last month and is the only CM from the northeastern states to visit the troubled Manipur.
CM Sarma’s visit comes against the backdrop of clashes with security forces, sporadic incidents of violence from different parts of the state and frequent attacks on MLAs’ homes.
