
On extortion charges, a Lakhimpur senior BJP leader arrested
Guwahati: A BJP leader has been arrested in Assam’s Lakhimpur for his alleged involvement in brokering activities and extortion.
The BJP leader, identified as Keramat Ali, was also the chairman of the Minority Development Board in Lakhimpur district at the time of his arrest. He is accused of extorting money from people by using the names of MLAs and MPs.
Ali has been accused of demanding money in exchange for government jobs. The BJP leader has been accused of fooling people by introducing himself as having close links with senior BJP leaders, MLAs.
After his arrest, Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka criticized Ali’s actions and demanded severe punishment.
