Guwahati: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan posted in Assam’s Hailakandi district was killed when he allegedly shot himself with his service revolver.
Around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, the body was found from a makeshift camp in Panchgram of Algapur tehsil of Hailakandi.
Officials said the deceased was a resident of Barpeta in Assam.
Hailakandi Additional Superintendent of Police Shamirdapar Baruah said that he was informed about the incident by CRPF personnel on Saturday morning and the injured jawan was taken to a local hospital but doctors declared him brought dead.
The dead body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for postmortem procedure and further investigation.
Baruah added there is a possibility of a suicide; however, they are waiting for the doctor’s confirmation.
On the other hand, the CRPF officials refused to give any statement regarding this matter.
As per the information, the family members of the CRPF Jawan have been asked to receive the dead body from Hailakandi.
