On disaster management training NSDMA held program in Dimapur

Dimapur: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) organized a capacity building program on disaster management at the Administrative Training Institute Complex in Kohima on Tuesday October 31.
Delivering the keynote address at the event, Nagaland Chief Secretary Jay Alam stressed the critical need for comprehensive disaster preparedness, highlighting that disasters can strike unexpectedly.
He said that being fully prepared for all kinds of disasters is an ideal way to deal with such situations.
Alam thanked the various institutions in the program specializing in disaster management and said that their knowledge and resources are invaluable in emergency situations.
He also emphasized the importance of mapping available capabilities and resources to enhance coordination.
The Chief Secretary of Nagaland spoke about the need to develop more capacities like setting up field hospitals within the NSDMA in case of a disaster as it can significantly save lives.
He also released the first report on Nagaland Disaster Statistics for 2023, prepared by the Department of Economics and Statistics.
Nagaland Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha and NSDMA CEO emphasized the importance of creating awareness about disaster management. He pointed out that disasters, especially earthquakes, come without any warning.
He added that annual tabletop exercises are conducted to enhance awareness and preparedness, ensuring maximum benefits from such programs.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Senior Consultant Major General Sudir Bahl (retd) highlighted the need for preparedness and capacity building among organizations to deal with disasters.
He also emphasized the importance of real-time simulations involving all stakeholders.

Meanwhile, a Table Top Exercise (TTEx) was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall in Dimapur on Tuesday, a state-wide mega mock drill on earthquake disaster for the Nagaland emergency preparedness exercise scheduled for November 2. Practice is in preparation.
During TTEx, facilitators guided participants to follow procedures, plans, and policies that focus on emergency response in a stress-free environment in hazardous situations.
The exercise also emphasized familiarization with laws, guidelines and responsibilities during an earthquake.
