New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the inaugural session of the World Buddhist Summit here on Thursday, his office said.
The two-day summit is being hosted by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation on April 20 and 21. The theme of the summit is “Answers to Contemporary Challenges: Philosophy to Practice”, it said.
The summit is an attempt to engage global “Buddhamma” leadership and scholars on issues of Buddhist and universal concern and come up with policy-making to collectively address them. He added that discussions at the summit would explore how the core values of the Buddha-Dhamma can provide inspiration and guidance in contemporary situations.
The PMO said the summit will witness the participation of eminent scholars, sangha leaders and dharma practitioners from around the world, who will discuss global issues and seek answers in the Buddha-Dhamma, which is based on universal values. .
“The talks will be held under four themes: Buddhism and Peace; Buddhism: Environmental Crisis, Health and Sustainability; Conservation of the Nalanda Buddhist Tradition; Buddha Dharma Pilgrimage, Living Heritage and Buddha’s Relics: South, Southeast and a resilient foundation of India’s centuries-old cultural links with countries in East Asia,” he added.
