Olympian park handed over to public by Manipur CM

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh handed over the Olympian Park to the people of the state and congratulated the Olympians on Friday.

Built to honor the 19 Olympians of Manipur as well as encourage athletes from the state, the park is located in the Sangaithel area of ​​Imphal West.
Speaking as the chief guest at the function, Chief Minister N Biren Singh acknowledged the contribution of local clubs in shaping the careers of 19 Olympians who brought fame to the state and the country. “May this Olympian Park inspire the coming generations to achieve great heights and add glory to the nation,” Singh said.
The Chief Minister called the Olympians ‘Living Legends’ and appealed to create a healthy society free from drugs.

“Recognizing the rich sports culture and love for sports, the state has been called the ‘Powerhouse of Sports’. The first National Sports University has also been established in the state.
CM Biren Singh said that national and international gold medal winning athletes were given suitable government jobs and this will be continued in the near future.
The Chief Minister asked everyone to build and promote a Manipur where there is no division on the basis of caste, religion, tribe or hill and valley. Praising the village headmen and CSO leaders, Singh also said that villagers have voluntarily started destroying poppy plants in the hills. He added that we can eradicate the scourge of drugs through collective and cooperative efforts.
Stating that the state government has initiated many development projects across the state, the chief minister urged people to realize ownership of various public properties and take care of them.

It may be noted that the park was constructed by Keystone Infra Pvt Ltd under Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited and was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 6.
Ministers Govindas Konthoujam, Nemcha Kipgen, L Susindro Meitei, H Dingo Singh, Tha Basantakumar Singh, Khashim Vashum, MLAs, officials and Olympians attended the event.
