KOHIMA: 121-year-old Pupirei Pfükha, reportedly Nagaland’s oldest citizen, passed away peacefully at her Kigwema village residence around 7 pm on Wednesday.
She was living with her granddaughter Arheno.
She reportedly went blind in her eighties and lost her hearing a few years ago and only responded when she was shouted at.
Pupirei was married to Vichapa Pfükha and had four children – three sons and a daughter.
His elder son was the first matric, first graduate and first gazetted officer of the state and died in 1989.
The late Pupirei Pfükha’s husband died in 1969.
In fact, all four of his children had died before him – three during the 1980s and 1990s and the only surviving son on 15 August 2020 at the age of 82.
Pupirei is survived by 18 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
