Nagaland: The NSCN/K-Khango and the Government of India (GoI) have mutually decided to extend the ceasefire agreement.
The ceasefire agreement has been extended for one year from April 18 to April 17, 2024.
The ceasefire agreement was decided to bring lasting peace to the state of Nagaland with the involvement of the Naga people.
Ceasefire shall be subject to the observance of Ceasefire Ground Rules mutually agreed upon and signed by both parties.
Additionally, the ceasefire ground rules will be mutually reviewed and modified with the involvement of both sides.
It may be mentioned here that ceasefire agreements are in place between the Government of India and National Socialist Council of Nagaland/NK (NSCN/NK), National Socialist Council of Nagaland/Reforms (NSCN/R) and National Socialist Council of Nagaland. Nagaland/K-Khango (NSCN/K-Khango).
Ceasefire agreements with NSCN/NK and NSCN/R from 28 April 2023 to 27 April 2024 and with NSCN/K-Khango from 18 April 2023 to 17 April 2024 have been extended by one more year. It was decided to extend the These agreements were signed on April 6, 2023.
Earlier on March 18, the ceasefire office of the NSCN-K Khango Konyak camp in Thilixu was attacked on the morning of March 17 allegedly by impeached General Secretary Isak Sumi and his cadres.
According to sources, Sumi reached the office with around 10 to 12 men and demanded Khango camp workers to open the gate.
On refusal, Sumi and his accomplices resorted to firing, though no casualties were reported. The police reached the spot and started investigating the matter.
The incident came after NSCN-K (Khango) faction general secretary Ishaq Sumi was sacked on January 5 by faction president Khango Konyak for acting without the approval of the group’s collective leadership.
Sumi was accused of acquiring “full powers and functions” without the consent of the faction’s collective leadership and was found guilty of “non-division of powers and functions, nepotism, and self-imposed one-man rule”, which was in direct opposition. For both “discipline” and “yezhabo” (constitution).
