NSCN-IM says Naga peace talks has made folly by Centre

Dimapur: The NSCN-IM, the Naga rebel group that is in a ceasefire agreement with the Centre, has accused the Center of not being serious about moving forward with the Framework Agreement which has made the ongoing Naga peace process a ” Funny” has been made.

The group’s president Q Tuccu said during a program at its headquarters in Hebron on Tuesday that the Centre-NSCN (IM) talks have been “bluff and bluster in every way without seriousness”.
This led the group to realize that the GoI with its entire state machinery was secretly planning to attack the Nagas. “Thus there is a lack of confidence on the part of the NSCN (IM),” he said.

“The absurdity of the situation with regard to the Indo-Naga political dialogue has been entirely created by the Government of India as its commitment to the Framework Agreement is becoming increasingly distasteful with each passing day,” Tuccu said.
The NSCN-IM has been the lead negotiator for Naga peace talks with the Center since 1997 and signed the Framework Agreement on 3 August 2015. A final solution is yet to be arrived at.

He said that despite the Centre’s handling of the peace talks, the NSCN-IM has taken forward the talks with full commitment and conviction. “No sacrifice is too great when it comes to defending the historical and political rights of the Nagas”.

The NSCN(IM) leader said, “It is for the GoI to get its act together and regain the lost ground… The fate of the Framework Agreement hangs in the balance as its commitment to it is time-to-time. There are ups and downs,” said the NSCN(IM) leader.
The Center has not accepted the NSCN-IM’s persistent demand for a separate flag and constitution for the Nagas, standing in the way of a final solution to one of the longest-running insurgency issues in the Northeast.
