Imphal: Banned freedom-fighter outfit National Revolutionary Front, Manipur (NRFM) has claimed responsibility for the killing of two suspected drug smugglers at two different locations in the state.
NRFM Information and Publicity Secretary Sanajaoba Meitei said in a statement that 26-year-old Kayenpaibam Nganga was killed for his involvement in drug trafficking cases.
Nganga’s bullet-riddled body was found on the banks of the Heingang river under Heingang police station in Imphal East district on February 14.
The organization also claimed to have killed a female drug trafficker, identified as 26-year-old Hoikhling, for her alleged involvement in drug-trafficking cases.
He was shot dead on October 17, 2022, near his home in Pholjang village, Churachandpur district.
The NRFM further warned that some drug smugglers, smugglers and dealers would be given severe punishment in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the police arrested three NRFM youth fighters in various raids in the valley districts during the last 24 hours.
A pistol with a magazine, five 7.65 rounds of ammunition, three mobile handsets, a wallet containing Rs 220, an Aadhaar card, a PAN card and a Honda Activa were recovered from them, police said.
NRFM fighter, Thounaojam Hemba Singh, 19, from Kongba was arrested with a pistol and ammunition at 1 am near the Convention City, the main venue for the G20 events.
On questioning them, two other activists were identified as Sagolsem Rahul Meitei, 19, from Bamon Kampu, Imphal East District and Khulem Shyam Singh, 19, from different locations in Khongpal Chaingingbum Leikaki, Imphal East District.
Police added that the arrested persons have been handed over to Porompat police station for further action.
