Margareta (Assam): North Eastern Coalfields seeks nod to start 2 Assam mines in FY23. Coal India Unit North Eastern Coal Fields is in the process of obtaining clearance to operate its two mines in Assam this financial year.
The development is significant in light of efforts to prevent a recurrence of power outages in the country.
As per a senior authority, the stockpile of 0.6 million tons (MT) of coal will be added to the mine once creation begins from the Trap OCP (Open Cast Project).
He added that the company is also in the process of obtaining clearance for Takak OCP in the state, which will produce 0.2 metric tonnes of coal.
“Once production from both mines starts, the company will produce about 1 million tonnes more,” the official said.
Coal India accounts for more than 80% of domestic coal production.
The master firm has been given a particular creation focus of one billion tons by 2023-24 and has been designated 60 new blocks to accomplish this objective, Joshi had prior said.
