Guwahati: The Assam Police has neutralized the recently formed Freedom fighter Adivasi People’s Liberation Army (APLA), a top official said on Thursday.
He said that nine cadres of the group were arrested from Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts on Wednesday and arms and ammunition were recovered from them.
Special Director General of Police GP Singh tweeted “@assampolice has neutralized a newly formed insurgent group APLA in less than four days from Golaghat and Karbi Anglong area. 9 activists in custody and weapons have been recovered.
“We continue to have zero tolerance for violence and gangs that engage in violence,” he posted.
“We are not sure exactly when the group was created, but we can say for sure that it was done recently,” the official said.
“These were cadres of Adivasi Freedom fighter groups who are now in peace talks with the government. They had tried to regroup as a new faction,” he added.
