Manipur won double gold in cycling race
Shillong: The scenic road from Shillong to the Mawthadrashan Peak was the setting for the road cycling event at the second Northeast Olympic Games 2022 on Tuesday, Manipur won double gold in cycling race in both categories.
Spanning 80 km, it was the only event of the 18 in NEOG 2022 to take place outside the Greater Shillong region and saw spectacular views with cyclists riding one of the best roads in the state in the early morning light.
In the test of endurance and stamina, Konthoujam Bishan Singh of Manipur secured the first position in the men’s open category in 2 hours 28 minutes and 25 seconds. He was followed by Arunachal Pradesh’s silver medalist, Tajum Dere (2:29:19), less than a minute later, and Meghalaya’s own Kevinjohn Khyllait took bronze (2:30:45).
The women’s open event was won by another cyclist from Manipur, Naorem B Devi (2:57:18). Arunachal won another silver with Lindum Kia Kia (3:01:56), while Thokchom Helen Devi added another bronze to Manipur’s tally (3:04:55).
