Shillong: Arunachal bagged exactly half of the gold medals in karate events at the second NEOG 2022, winning 12 out of 24.
Arunachal also won 7 silver and 5 bronze medals. Meghalaya finished second with 8 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals. Manipur got 2G, 3S and 7B, Assam 1G, 4S and 7B, Sikkim 1G, 3S and 8B, Mizoram 2 silver and 10 bronze while Tripura and Nagaland bagged 2 and 2 bronze respectively.
Today, Meghalaya won gold in the senior men’s -67kg kumite category after Arunachal Pradesh’s Gary Daniel L Mawlong defeated Doni Neary. Assam’s Hari pradhan and Mizoram’s TC Lalrinsanga were awarded bronze medals.
In the senior men’s +67kg category, Arunachal Pradesh’s Anand Chhetri won gold, Assam’s Prasujya Gogoi won silver and Meghalaya’s Ilamfang Kharkongur and Tripura’s Ratandeep Bhattacharjee won bronze.
Meghalaya won gold again in the women’s -61kg kumite women’s final, with Meghalaya’s Barisha Kurbani defeating Sikkim’s Smita Rai. And the bronze medal went to Mimi Ramchang of Arunachal Pradesh and Bena Shaki Pakhri Hingbam of Manipur.
In the women’s -68 kg category, first place went to Sikkim’s Nemo Lepcha, Mizoram’s Lalranzuli got silver, and joint third went to Assam’s Junmuni Das and Arunachal Pradesh’s Yaki Dignam.
In the women’s +68 kg category, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam were involved in a thrilling final, where the former’s Jani Mangkhia won the gold, Ayman Gogoi bagged the silver. Nagaland’s Tibanla Jameer and Mizoram’s Laltankhwahi bagged the bronze medals.
