GUWAHATI: Tension broke out at the Assam Power Distribution Corporation Limited’s (APDCL) Digboi Electrical Sub-Division following a heated argument between employees and locals on Saturday evening.
The dispute arose when a group of locals visited the substation to complain about power supply problems.
According to sources, the altercation started inside the control room where the officials on duty were accused of misbehaving with the occupants.
Locals claim that the officials not only misbehaved with them but also resorted to physical violence and forced them out of the control room.
Reports indicate that the locals had contacted the control room to report a power outage in Borjan village in Digboi. They alleged that despite several complaints, the authorities concerned did not take any action on the substation.
Seeking a solution to their problem, several residents of Borjan village went to the office to file a formal complaint. However, they claim that the control room staff not only assaulted them but also denied them access to the complaint register.
Additionally, locals have expressed frustration over the ineffectiveness of the helpline number set up for public complaints.
They say that despite seeking help through the designated helpline, their problems have not been resolved.
