Guwahati: North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met leaders of Kuki organizations under suspension of operations (SoO).
NEDA Convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met at least four leaders of two Kuki rebel groups from Manipur under the SoO in Guwahati.
The meeting was held on Sunday night in Guwahati, Assam.
According to sources, the meeting was fruitful, with the Kuki leaders expressing hope for restoration of peace in Manipur after the intervention of the NEDA convener.
Earlier, on Saturday (June 10), the Assam Chief Minister visited Imphal in Manipur and discussed the current security situation in the state with Chief Minister Biren Singh.
Himanta Biswa Sarma – on Saturday (June 10) said that peace and stability in Manipur is very important.
“For us (BJP), peace and stability in Manipur is very important,” said NEDA convener and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
According to sources, NEDA convener Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to visit Manipur’s Churachandpur district next week.
During his prospective visit to Churachandpur in Manipur, the NEDA convenor will interact with Kuki leaders.
Manipur has been on the boil since May 3 following clashes between two communities in the state and subsequent widespread violence.
Around 100 people have lost their lives and thousands have been displaced in the state following the clashes and subsequent violence.
