Itanagar: The Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles and Longding District Police in Arunachal Pradesh arrested three freedom fighters of the Yung Aung faction of the NSCN(K) in the last two days and seized drugs and cash from them, sources said.
The three were arrested on June 17 and 18 from Wakka and Khanu villages near the Indo-Myanmar border, sources said, and heroin-based drugs worth Rs 7 lakh were recovered from their possession.
The operation was launched based on an input regarding the presence of suspected NSCN-K (YA) operatives near Wakka town.
Sources further said that a case has been registered and the three have been handed over to the district police for questioning.
It is speculated that the drug trade is part of a larger narco-terror racket that is fueling new insurgencies in the region.
