New Delhi: A helicopter carrying six people crashed near Mount Everest in Nepal on Tuesday.
According to reports, five bodies have been removed from the accident site, and rescue operations are underway to search for the remaining persons.
The helicopter, a Manang Air flight, took off from Surki in Solukhambu district at 9:45 am and lost contact within 15 minutes. According to the Kathmandu Post, it crashed in Lamjura in the same district.
The accident was reported by locals who found the wreckage at Chihandanda in Lamjura. The cause of the accident is not yet known, but the police believe that the helicopter may have hit a tree on the top of the hill.
The five bodies recovered have not yet been identified. Nepali pilot Captain Chet Bahadur Gurung is believed to be one of the passengers.
The helicopter, with the call sign 9N-AMV, was en route to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Its last location was tracked at 10:12 am in Lamjura Pass area.
