Guwahati: An Indian Army soldier was killed in an explosion at a field firing range in Assam’s Baksa district along the India-Bhutan border, officials said on Tuesday.
The army personnel, identified as Sandeep Kumar, lost his life in an explosion at the Darranga Field firing range under Kumarikata police station in Baksa district on Monday while on sentry duty.
Guwahati-based PRO (Defence) Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said that Kumar was seriously injured in the blast and was given immediate medical attention on the spot by a regimental medical officer at the range.
He was later taken to the Army Base Hospital in Basistha, Guwahati, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Kumar hails from Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh and is survived by his wife and one-year-old son.
The army has ordered an investigation to find out the reasons behind the incident.
