NE civil society members decry PM Modi's speech in Rajasthan

Guwahati: Prominent civil society members from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur have condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in Rajasthan and urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to “take action against him”. Adequate action should be taken for violation of ethics.”
A statement issued by civil society members including Dr Hiren Gohain, Kulda Kumar Bhattacharjya, Ajit Kumar Bhuyan and many other eminent personalities.
According to the statement, the civil society members wrote, “We have received a video clip of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s election speech which he gave on Sunday at a place called Banswara in Rajasthan.
“In his speech, the Prime Minister boldly condemned former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and a certain community by taking Dr. Singh’s speech out of context.
“Modi’s speech is most shocking and disgusting for a Prime Minister. It directly incites hatred against a community. This is a clear violation of the election code of conduct.
“We feel that the Prime Minister’s statement is against the fundamental principles of democracy and our constitution.
“We condemn his speech and urge the Election Commission of India to take appropriate action against him for violating the model code of conduct.”
