
Nagaland: Upon SC direction Rupin Sharma re-appointed DGP
KOHIMA: Following the Supreme Court’s intervention in the case of the current Director General of Police (DGP), the Nagaland government has notified the re-appointment of former police chief Rupin Sharma in place of T Jan Longkumer.
Through a Home Department notification, Chief Secretary Jay Alam informed that in the interest of public service, the Governor of Nagaland has authorized IPS (Nagaland Cadre) Rupin Sharma to take charge as Director General of Police, Nagaland.
Sharma has been given charge as DG (Prisons & HG.CD & SDRF) in addition to his current charge. This order will be effective from January 7 till further orders.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the Nagaland government to submit the updated list of officers shortlisted for appointment to the post of Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland by October 31, 2022 to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). send Directed the UPSC to take a decision on the appointment by November 30, 2022.
The Nagaland Law Students Federation had attacked the appointment and extension of service of the present DGP who was on deputation from the Chhattisgarh cadre and was due to retire on August 31, 2022, but his service was extended by another six months.
On Tuesday, the Minister for Planning and Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu, said that the cabinet, in its meeting, decided to accept Longkumer’s resignation, which was submitted a day earlier.
Kronu had said that the formalities would be completed by January 7.
