Guwahati: The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday unveiled $ 2 million project ready to design climate-resilient urban infrastructure, strengthen institutional capacity and improve municipal resources in 16 District Headquarters Towns (DHTs). Among those who signed the PRF for the proposed Nagaland Urban Infrastructure Development Project was Mr. Rajat Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, who signed on behalf of the Government of India and Mr. Takeo Konishi, ADB Country Director. After signing the agreement, Mr Mishra said the facility would support key preparatory activities for the upcoming project aimed at improving civic infrastructure and services in Nagaland so that the state could realize its economic potential. Get help
He said that the Government of India is committed to the development of the North East region.

Towns and cities of Nagaland are facing long term challenges of climate change, lack of basic amenities, poor communication. Major transport routes around urban areas are severely affected by landslides during the monsoon season. Urban roads are dilapidated without storm water drainage.

Most cities face severe water shortages and with the exception of Dimapur, sewerage or septage management systems are inadequate.
Increasing the capacity of state institutions will help mobilize their resources through urban local bodies (ULBs), improve their readiness to implement future projects and initiate sector and institutional reforms. ADB is committed to achieving a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific while continuing its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty. Founded in 1966, it has 68 members – 49 from the area.
